This Girl Bleeds From Her Eyes And Ears, And No One Knows Why

A seventeen year-old girl suffers from a bizarre and horrific ailment that makes hers seep blood from her eyes and ears.

Marnie-Rae Harvey, from the U.K., went to the doctors after falling unwell and coughing up blood in 2013. However, numerous tests showed nothing untoward. Over the next few years, her symptoms became more severe and unusual. In July 2015, she woke up with her pillow covered in blood and trickles coming from her eye.

Since then, she has visited a variety of medical specialists, none of whom have been able to develop a clear diagnosis.

"Normally it'll bleed for about five minutes then stop for an hour but it's been happening for half and hour and stopping for five minutes. I have to keep getting up in the night but I'm sick every day about five times," Miss Harvey told BBC Newsbeat.

Recently, her condition has progressed and she now reportedly bleeds from her ears, nose, gums, scalp, fingernails, and tongue.

The illness has understandably taken its toll on the girl’s life. She reportedly stays housebound and was unable to attend her GCSE exams at school.

For now, Harvey’s condition remains unsolved. “We’ve had it confirmed that Marnie does not have a brain tumour or brain AVM – an abnormal collection of blood vessels,” her mother said. “Her blood tests come back clear and healthy, her iron levels are strong.

“She has no tumours, no blood diseases and no blood clotting disorders. Her blood clots well.”

These symptoms are virtually unheard of even within the field of medicine. Although there are reports have a condition called “haemolacria” which causes bleeding from the eyes, the symptoms remain largely unrecognised by modern medicine.
