The city of Moscow was established more than 800 years ago. Because of it's vast and rich history, some look at the city as a place of infinite possibilities. At times, though, it can also seem like a dystopian wasteland rife with corruption and environmental disasters.
Last year, you would have been right to put the city into that latter category thanks to a leak at an oil refinery in the city's southeastern district. It caused the Moscow River to burst into flames...
This seems like something right out of a disaster movie:
Luckily, firefighters were able to get the blaze under control within an hour and there were no fatalities. I think it would be a good city planning idea to move those sorts of facilities away from populated areas...
